We live among competing stories. One says that the universe is finally without purpose, human dignity is a temporary agreement, morality is a social invention, and death will have the last word. Another offers spirituality without history—a private comfort detached from bodies, justice, and the earth. The biblical story announces something larger: the living God created a good world, remains faithful to it, entered its suffering in Jesus Christ, and is leading it toward resurrection and new creation [Genesis 1:31; John 1:14; Colossians 1:15–20; Revelation 21:1–5].

The Reasons to Believe series explores why this Christian hope deserves thoughtful trust. It welcomes the believer seeking stronger foundations, the doubter carrying honest objections, and the curious reader who wants to understand Christianity before accepting or rejecting it. Each lesson offers ten converging reasons, biblical reflection, practical significance, and an invitation to respond.

This is not a staircase by which clever people climb up to God. It is a road along which we examine the signs of the God who has already come near. Arguments matter, evidence matters, and careful thinking matters. Yet the destination is not merely a conclusion written in a notebook. It is trust in the Father, allegiance to Jesus the Messiah, life in the Spirit, and participation in God’s healing work within the world.

Guiding conviction: Christian faith is not a leap into darkness; it is a faithful response to the light God has given through creation, Scripture, conscience, history, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

The Shape of the Journey

The lessons follow the movement of the biblical story. We begin with God, creation, and the human question. We then turn toward Jesus, the center of Christian faith. From Jesus we move to Scripture and the gospel, then to the Spirit, prayer, and the life of the church. Finally, we face death, judgment, Christ’s return, and the promised renewal of heaven and earth.

How Each Lesson Works

Every lesson begins with a difficult question rather than a shallow answer. It then offers ten reasons, usually developed through two movements: theological reflection rooted in Scripture and practical illumination drawn from ordinary life. Bible references appear within the discussion so readers can examine the wider context. Each reason ends with a takeaway connecting truth to trust, character, relationships, worship, mission, or hope.

The lessons are designed to be read in sequence, but each can also stand alone. A reader struggling with suffering may begin there. A reader questioning Scripture may turn to Part III. A church group may travel through one lesson each week. The important thing is to read patiently, test every claim, and keep the individual questions within the Bible’s larger story.

What This Series Will—and Will Not—Do

This series will offer reasons, not coercion; confidence, not arrogance; biblical conviction, not fear of investigation. It will distinguish genuine mystery from lazy explanation and honest doubt from refusal to listen. It will take science, history, philosophy, suffering, and personal experience seriously while refusing to reduce God to one object among others.

It will not claim that every question has a quick answer, that every Christian has represented Jesus faithfully, or that an argument can replace repentance and trust. Evidence can point. Scripture can testify. The church can bear witness. But faith finally responds to a living Person. Christianity invites us not merely to conclude that God exists, but to confess that Jesus is Lord and begin living within the world his resurrection has opened [Romans 10:9; 2 Corinthians 5:17].

The Invitation

Bring your intelligence, but also bring your wounds. Bring what you have learned in the laboratory and what you have whispered beside a grave. Bring the questions inherited from your culture, the disappointments carried from the church, the longings awakened by beauty, and the guilt that refuses to remain silent. The God of Scripture is not frightened by the truth about us.

As the series unfolds, one question will keep returning: Which story makes the fullest sense of the world we actually inhabit? Is reality finally without mind, purpose, justice, or hope? Or are we living inside the unfinished story of a faithful Creator whose light has entered the darkness, whose Son has defeated death, and whose Spirit is preparing creation for the day all things are made new?

The invitation is simple: do not turn away before you have looked. Come, examine the reasons. Come, meet Jesus. Come, and learn to hope.

Opening Prayer

God of creation, covenant, cross, and new creation, meet me on this road. Give me a mind that loves truth, a heart that remains teachable, and courage to follow the evidence wherever it leads. Heal the wounds that distort my vision, expose the idols that demand my loyalty, and protect me from both shallow belief and careless unbelief.

Through Scripture, show me the great story of your faithfulness. Through Jesus Christ, show me your face. Through the Holy Spirit, form in me a life that bears witness to your kingdom. Lead me from questions into wisdom, from fear into trust, and from private conviction into love for my neighbor and faithful care for your world. Amen.
